FIVE YEARS OF PADDOCK PLANTS 2003 - 2008!

It’s our fifth birthday on the 1st of June!

On that day in 2003, instead of bringing Joanna a champagne breakfast in bed to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, Rob got up at some unearthly hour of the morning and set off for the Bursledon car boot along with middle son Russell and an MPV-load of young plants in 9 cm pots. From two pasting tables they set about selling their wares at 25 or 50 pence a plant – sunflowers, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins and some perennials – and so Paddock Plants was born.

Five years later the scale of things is rather different: we send plants all over the UK thanks to our website, and we grow and sell thousands of plants each year. But we still get up at 4.45 am most Sunday mornings from March to October to visit where it all started five years ago! And we are very grateful to all those regular customers who have supported us over that time at Bursledon, at Shootash, or at events like The Home & Garden Show at Whiteley. As well as those from further afield.

So thank you. And here’s to the next five years!

In this year’s catalogue

We think we have some really interesting new additions this year and, though some old favourites didn’t make the list this year, that’s not to say they won’t be back in the future. We have tried hard to keep prices as low as we can in spite of increasing costs to us – there are still lots of £1.95 perennials, for example – and we will always try to offer the best value we can.

We have as always tried to maintain the balance between offering traditional and popular garden plants and including some more unusual or rare varieties that you don’t find in the big garden centres. Whether you are a new or existing customer, we hope you will find something you fancy in these pages!
